I spent nearly all day yesterday upgrading my SuSe install to 10.3 . Which is very cool 'cause it worked beautifully. My SD card reader now works. It even remembered all my user settings from 10.2.
It did not remember that I actually want to be able to listen to mp3s and watch my DVDs. To be fair, this is due to those annoying copyright arguments that go on from time to time. The solution is easy. Install the right codecs.
Install fluendo. Get gstreamer conflicts.
Upgrade gstreamer. Install fluendo.
Install a miscellaneous number of incidental applications. Cool.
Amarok now works nicely :) My right speaker is silent. OK, so they haven't fixed it yet.
Google problem. Solution install alsa-driver-kmp-default (1.0.15.hg20071127_2.6.22.5_31).
So me being the lazy person I am ran an update on alsa instead.
My sound now works for the first time this 10.0. w00t!
Schedule upgrades to all packages overnight - including a kernel update. Come back in the morning and the sound is screwed again. ARGH!!!!
After much fiddling, including a complete reinstall of SuSe, a solution has been found.
kernel 2.6.22.13-0.3-default
alsa 1.0.14-31.2
ALSA was reverted from 1.0.15 after the kernel upgrade, the alsa-driver removed (automatically installed as part of the kernel upgrade). The version is now locked.
