Day five of NaBloPoMo and we get to the inevitable dull day where you've done nothing out of the ordinary, and the QOTD has let you down (How on earth would I know what Obama has done - nothing for us here in Australia!). So, here I am wondering what to write - which is the whole point of this exercise.
Lately, I've not been working and I'm having a wonderful time being a full time mum and actually having time to study for my uni exams that are coming up. The problem is, the longer that I'm not working, the harder it is to get back into what I want to do.
So the question is, how to I turn an interview into a job offer? I get positive responses from the interviewers, but get cut out by people with more experience than me. Not sure where all these other people were when I was trying to hire people in my previous job. Where do I get experience when no one is hiring and I'm not studying and the local university?
We will get there eventually...
Have you ever volunteered for something? If so, what?
I volunteer quite a bit actually! Not as much as I's like - I have to earn a living too!
My major effort is as a Joey Scout leader. In other words I entertain 7 year olds for 1 hour a week and get them interested in Scouting. I also get an excellent excuse to do fun science experiments and craft activities...
I suppose the most interesting thing I volunteered for was the Sydney Olympics in 2000. The volunteer applications closed about a year before the games and you could nominate what areas you wanted to work in. I nominated as a help desk operator as I'd had experience in that area. Unfortunately, I never made it to the Olympics - not even as a spectator. My son was born less than 2 weeks before they started and I had my hands full!!
Maybe next time they are in Australia?
What lessons did you take when you were younger that you abandoned? Why did you stop?
Drawing
For a couple of years there, I had a private art teacher. I don't actually remember why I gave it up. I think it may have been because I started to focus on science rather than art.
