"A leading scientist in the LCMV field, Michael Oldstone from the Scripps Institute in La Jolla, had published the results of some collaborative experiments with Hugh McDevitt and Graham Mitchell, one of Jacques Miller's graduate students who was then working with McDevitt at Stanford. Their paper suggested the possibility of an H2-related 'Ir gene effect' in the LCMV immunopathlogy model. We decided to follow up this idea with our CTL assay, and got hold of a couple of H2 different mouse strains that were being used for graft rejection studies."
